MUST EAT - Indian Snacks in Malaysia
Malaysia is a beautiful country located in Southeast Asia
which comprises of Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia (Malaysian Borneo).
WHY IS IT BEAUTIFUL YOU ASK?! Well, this is because Malaysia is a multiracial
country that is made up of many different races, mainly the Malays, Chinese,
Indians. That being said, Malaysians have many unique norms, cultures and most
importantly, local delicacies. Today, I’ll be emphasizing on the local Indian food
that you cannot miss out when you’re in Malaysia!
Malaysian food from the Indian population is quite
different from the Malay or Chinese cuisine. The Indians flavor hot and spicy
flavors. Their main dish usually consists of either rice or bread
(chapatti, tosai (thosai, dosa in India), parrata, puri). They eat this with
various curries and will not eat beef due to religious beliefs.

Curry Puffs may look like another puff pastry or savory pie, but it is considered the king of all pastries for many of us Malaysians. There are plenty of variations when it comes to the curry puff which makes it perfect for a multi-cultural and diverse country like Malaysia. It is usually cooked with potatoes and a special thick curry which will not ooze out and create a mess. Other types also include ingredients like hard-boiled eggs and chicken. This stall offers many Indian light bites such as Uluntu Vadai (crispy doughnut shaped lentil fritters), Masala Vadai (mixture of spices in fried batter), Dhai Vadai (dhal fritters) but their crispy deep fried curry puffs are to die for.

2. Rojak
Rojak means an “eclectic mix” in colloquial Malay, and the
dish sure lives up to its name. Rojak is a delicious combination of floury cake, sliced
cucumber, hard-boiled egg, fried tofu, bean sprout and fried crackers that is
perfectly mixed with a savory peanut sauce which typically determines how good
the rojak will be. Rojak can be found at every corner of our neighbourhood
street as a hawker stall. It is a go-to local Malaysian snack adored by people
of all ages. This rojak stall particularly, have been operating for over 20 years. Despite its hot and street side location, you can still see a long line of people queuing up for it.

3. Cendol
Cendol is made up of a simple combination of shaved ice, coconut milk, palm sugar, and pandan jelly noodles - glutinous rice (pulut) and red beans. Perfect for a hot Malaysian weather! Casually located next to the Rojak stall, this cendol vendor serves rich, sweet and refreshing cendol at a super affordable price. Visitors can conveniently kill two birds with one stone as it satisfy both their teatime treat and thirst quencher.
